Sustainable development

Packimpex is ISO 14001 certified, which underlines our commitment to an environmentally friendly business model. We continuously aim to reduce our carbon footprint because we are convinced that sustainable development will ensure our company's future. Through concrete actions, we want to highlight that there is a clear path for the future development of our industry where profits and principles go hand in hand.

A constant analysis of processes throughout the value chain has enabled us to substantially reduce our carbon emissions over the last years. After years of optimization efforts, we are proud to announce that we have become one of the first, if not the first, in our industry to achieve CO2 neutrality.

Fleet of vehicles

Over the past 12 months, Packimpex has invested CHF 800'000 to reduce the average age of our fleet (today 82 vehicles) down from 4.5 to 3.6 years. With one of the youngest fleets in our industry, we have reduced the average fuel consumption

(including trucks) from 14.5l per 100km to 13l per 100 km over the same period. All vehicles used for operational purposes are equipped with a state of the art data system allowing us to monitor and optimize the driving styles of our employees. Our latest investment has been the purchase of two electric cars from Peugeot’s newest range “ION”.

Green energy

Packimpex has reduced the consumption of water and energy per capita in its offices and warehouses by an average of 5% annually over the past five years. Today, all energy requirements are green (hydraulic) energy. Packimpex absorbs the surcharge in supplying itself with clean energy. At our headquarters, the oil heating system is replaced by a state of the art heating system which is totally CO2 neutral.

Ongoing initiatives

Reusable packing materials are used and recycled wherever possible during the move process. A modern concept for disposing furniture from our rental programme at the end of its life cycle has also been developed. Workshops, target setting and a sensitive purchasing policy have also contributed to these achievements.

CO2 Compensation

The remaining approximately 500 tons of CO2 that Packimpex still emits per year through its activities in Switzerland is compensated with a certified investment in CO2 compensation certificates. For international removals, without your contribution, it is currently impossible to provide the service with zero CO2 emissions. As a result, at Packimpex we offer our clients the possibility to compensate the estimated level of CO2 in their relocation by purchasing a certified CO2 compensation certificate. Each quotation includes the option to compensate the CO2 emissions generated from this specific removal – just like we see on air travel bookings for example.

Reforestation in Kikonda Forest Reserve, Uganda

20% of the global carbon emissions are caused by deforestation. As a result, all of the CO2 compensation certificates generated by Packimpex and their clients are invested in the Kikonda Forest Reserve Reforestation project in Uganda. The project comprises 120 km², employs more than 600 people, and is the first ever to be granted both Carbon Fix and CCBA certification for its positive socio-ecological impact. 20% of the project's acreage is reserved for conservation, protecting wetlands along riverbeds throughout the plantation area. Initially, the best forestry students in the country were recruited to learn about the project. Subsequently, the recruits were tasked with managing the project with the assistance of international experts. Since then, the combination of local knowledge and international expertise has formed the basis for successful and sustainable project management and forestry infrastructure.

A lot of hands-on work is necessary to grow seedlings and prevent weeds from choking out the saplings. Later, grazing sheep are used to control the weeds, avoiding the use of pesticides. The project is designed to have a long-term positive impact on climate, local fauna/flora and communities.
